Local Area
Torquay is a favored vacation spot for Victorians, celebrated for its scenic beaches, expansive grassy foreshores, and the grand, shady trees that line the coastline. The town features picturesque walking trails along the foreshore, offering stunning vistas from Yellow Bluff and Point Danger, where an Anzac Memorial stands proudly on the headland, overlooking the sea.
The heart of Torquay's commercial activity is centered on Pearl Street and Gilbert Street, which seamlessly connect to The Esplanade’s coastal boulevard. On Bell Street, you’ll find a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants, and the town’s historic hotel, situated across from a large camping and caravan park near Point Danger.
Renowned as a hub of the surfing industry, Torquay is home to numerous surf-related manufacturers and retailers along its main highway. Surf City Plaza stands out as a key attraction, housing the Australian National Surfing Museum—the largest museum dedicated to surfing and beach culture in the world.
Just a few kilometers to the southwest of Torquay is Bells Beach, famous for hosting the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Classic—an international surfing competition that draws competitors from across the globe each year.
