My Nana and Grampy’s oceanside home is simple, but the view is simply breathtaking.
Not a day went by that my Grampy didn’t look out at the ocean before him and say “look at those diamonds on the water. Aren’t we blessed.” Now it’s time to share those blessings with you.
Grampy laid out his property in a unique way. The main part of the house (which you will be renting) is two stories: with two bedrooms and two baths (one bedroom and one bathroom on each floor), there is an interior balcony overlooking the kitchen/gathering space below and the main floor has sliding glass doors that open to a spacious waterfront deck with ocean views.
The property also contains a separate studio on the lower level of the main house, and a loft apartment in the attached garage, which are occupied, and have their own access.
Located in the Town of Harpswell, Cundy's Harbor is one of the last traditional fishing villages in Maine. If you are looking for a real Maine experience, and value simple pleasures, you'll love our home.

Why stay at "Diamonds on the Water?"
Watch Lobstermen tend their traps from the spacious deck overlooking the water. Listen to the sounds from the family of seals on the ledges or the seagulls soaring high overhead. Walk down to the cove in your backyard to poke around in the tidal pools or launch your kayak and go exploring. Or curl up on the couch in front of the gas fireplace on a rainy day and play one of our boardgames.
Cundy’s Harbor, in Harpswell, Maine, is a classic Maine fishing village. Still inhabited by many of the local families— who have fished these waters and raised their families here for generations— including my own.
Our home is truly off the beaten path, but surprisingly close to many adventures. Take a stroll to the iconic “Holbrook’s Wharf” and pick a lobster to be steamed for dinner. Other nearby adventures include: Thomas Point Beach (only 13 minutes away), the Maine State Music Theatre at Bowdoin College which presents broadway musicals throughout the summer (21 minutes), explore all the islands in Harpswell: stop by Cook’s Lobster House on Bailey Island, the Island Candy Shoppe on Orr’s Island, depart from Bailey’s Island on Casco Cruise Lines, take a sunset cruise from Sebasco Harbor Estates, Freeport, Maine and world-famous “LL Bean” and Designer Outlets (34 minutes); Popham Beach and Fort Popham (45 minutes); Portland, ME (Airport Code: PWM) and the cobblestone streets of the “Old Port” with many shops and restaurants (54 minutes); but especially coves, inlets, islands and lighthouses all perfect to explore on an afternoon drive (starting right outside your door!).

Bits and Bobs to Note:
The house is three stories. The balcony/deck has railings, but sits quite high overlooking the water below. We don’t recommend our home for families of very small children due to safety concerns.
This is our family home. Please treat it with care and leave it in the same condition as when you arrived. It has been loved for many years and has the charm of any older home. We can only host non-smokers (we have an asthmatic in our family), and no pets (sorry).
Max. number of guests (4) due to the sleeping arrangements and the fact that we live on an island and water is not plentiful. Quiet hours are 11pm to 6am (and our home cannot accommodate large parties/events). It is a quiet neighborhood and neighbors are close by. The driveway is shared (your access includes space for one car; more parking can be arranged).
One of the quirks of living on an island in Maine is that we have well water which is not plentiful. Please be conscious of water usage and water pressure when running two appliances at the same time. We do have a spigot in the kitchen which dispenses purified water.
Check-in on Saturdays is anytime after 4PM via lockbox code (provided to you prior to check-in). Check-out time on Saturdays is by 10:00 AM.
We are sorry we cannot accommodate late check-outs as the girl who comes to clean at 10 AM has reserved this window for us and then has to go on to her next house. Some folks prefer to load up their cars of what they don’t need on Friday night so they can spend their last hours on Saturday morning sipping one last cup of coffee or tea on the deck.

Please note: by design we have chosen to keep the house “as it was” when my mom, aunt and uncle grew up here, and we spent carefree summers with my grandparents. It’s not shiny or new. You won’t find stainless steel appliances, granite countertops or fancy flooring. There are many “old timers” homes that have been gutted to look like that on the coast of Maine. Our house feels like walking back in time to a period when life was slower, stories were told around the dinner table, and the walls and wooden beams of an old house oozed history and lore. On any given day, the view out of the windows, of the lobstermen still earning a living by grit and hard physical labor, is what makes Maine - Maine. This is a simple place. But it’s simply perfect for us, and if you choose to be our guests, we hope it will be simply wonderful for you too.
