La Copa del Sol | Teopa Beach
Gian Franco Brignone, the founder of Costa Careyes, dreamt of a man and a woman united by the cosmos while bathed in the light of the setting sun. In 2006, the manifestations of his dream were created. Majestically perched on a cliff overlooking Playa Teopa, La Copa del Sol, which represents the woman, rises 35 feet from its base and is over 88 feet in diameter. Equally an acoustic and visual marvel, it catches and cups the sun.

The Piramidion | Playa Teopa, Cabeza del Indio
The Pyramidion, representing the man, is tucked inside a cave a mile inland from La Copa del Sol. Aligned in such a way that the sun appears to set into La Copa while illuminating the Pyramidion. These structures unite, just as in the dream of Gian Franco, on the equinoxes of March and September. The visit of the Piramidion brings you to the next level of the magic of Careyes, understanding how it is profoundly grounded in the ancient Mexican heritage.
Centro del Universo | Playa Teopa
Deemed sacred, they now spiral into El Centro del Universo at the top of Cabeza del Indio. El Centro del Universo is accessible by a 15 min guided hike known as “Camino de la Vida”. Access to both sites is available under request only and is subject to availability.

Chamela Town
Chamela is a small town in the state of Jalisco, on the west coast of Mexico. The town of Chamela sits on the south end of a bay called the Bahía de Chamela, or ""Chamela Bay"", on Federal Highway 200. San Mateo and Punta Pérula are the two other towns on the bay. It is 8 miles north of the better-known resort of Careyes.

Six species arrive in this region: olive ridley, loggerhead, green, olive ridley, hawksbill, and leatherback. Some in greater numbers than others, marking a diversity that in few coastal areas is registered in the same way.
The turtle that arrives at the coast the most is the hawksbill. The hawksbill turtle is a species of sea turtle of the chelonid family. It is the only species of the genus Eretmochelys. Depending on the season of the year, turtles can be released.
