OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
Ripley, Ohio, holds a significant place in the history of the Underground Railroad. Located along the Ohio River, the village stood directly across from the slave state of Kentucky, making it an important crossing point for freedom seekers escaping north.
Ripley was home to courageous abolitionists, including Rev. John Rankin and John Parker, who risked their lives to help enslaved people on their journey toward freedom.
Today, visitors can explore this powerful history and discover why Ripley is considered one of the most important Underground Railroad communities in the region. Visit the Rankin House and the John P. Parker House while you're in Ripley.
